Transforming Lives The Big Lottery Establishing a new £50m Trust Plans by the Big Lottery Fund to invest £50 million in helping to transform the lives of young people leaving care and individuals with dementia and their carers across Scotland have moved a step forward with the announcement that BIG’s Scotland Committee have agreed to establish a new independent trust to deliver the investment.
The announcement was made at an event in Edinburgh on the 2 June attended by a range of stakeholders, including Shona Robison Minister for Public Health and Sport and Adam Ingram, Minister for Children and the Early Years. BIG has been scoping the options for delivering this funding since the initial announcement of the proposals by the First Minister in March this year.

Government consultation on share of good causes funds
The new UK Government has launched a consultation on how to share out National Lottery good causes cash in future. The Big Lottery fund currently distributes 50 per cent% of all National Lottery good causes funding.
The Government’s proposals would mean that over the next two years the Government would reduce the share for the Big Lottery Fund to 40%, and increase the shares for arts, heritage and sport across the UK to 20% each.

2014 Communities
*We’re delighted to announce that our 2014 Communities programme is improving, with the maximum grant available doubling to £2,000. The application process has also been simplified making the grants easier to access.*
BIG’s 2014 Communities programme aims to build a* *legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.* *Through the programme more people will be encouraged to take part and volunteer through sport or physical activity as well as using sport as a way to bring together people from different generations. In total £6.8 million will be invested over the lifetime of the fund, which is recognised as part of the Scottish Government’s Games Legacy plan.
The development comes as BIG announces the latest grants from *2014 Communities *under the* *year one criteria.
