Letter from Geoff Pope, Manager - Organisational Support, Third Sector Divison

07.07.11

Dear Laurence,

Following recent restructuring at Scottish Government, there has been a change of Deputy Director at the Third Sector Division, with Yvonne Strachan taking up the post.  This has occurred as part of a chain of recent staff changes which resulted in Local Government and Third Sector Directorate taking on the SG Equalities Unit.  In putting that in place, it was decided that – in line with current SG restructuring - they could reduce the Directorate’s overall complement by one Deputy Director post.  As a result Yvonne Strachan is going to lead the Third Sector team alongside her existing responsibilities in the Equality Division.

Yvonne may already be known to many in the sector; she has past and current knowledge of social enterprise and voluntary issues (she was previously on the board of the Wise Group) as well as the wider environment (she was previously on the board of Scottish Enterprise).  She is looking forward to getting involved with the range of issues that are currently facing the sector and to ensuring that the Scottish Government is working effectively with partners so that social enterprises and voluntary organisations are effectively supported to play a fuller role in Scottish society.  This is particularly important in relation to service design and delivery in the light of the Christie Commission report into the future of public service delivery.

With best wishes

Geoff
