Edinburgh Markets is a new social enterprise running community marketplaces in the city centre. These are traditional markets but with a community focus so, not only do we sell a mix of food, clothes, arts/crafts and gifts, but they also organise events and develop social projects to help build community.
This month they are offering a free day for new traders to try it out, any day between 8th and 11th Dec. The market will be located outside St Mary's Cathedral on the corner of Leith St and York Pl in the city.
Their aim is to help not-for-profits generate income by running a market stall, whilst promoting 'good neighbour' attitudes amongst local people and towards the environment.
Edinburgh Markets started in May 2011 and are currently developing their first community marketplace, at the top of Broughton Street. They run a Festival Market here in August, a Christmas Market in December, and a weekly market from March to July.
EM also supports a number of third sector organisations who have stalls. These include;
Alzheimer's Scotland, Bridgend Growing Community, Children 1st, Health in Mind, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Pass IT On, Redhall Walled Garden, RSPB, Samaritans, SAMH & Stepping Forward.
