Touchwood Project

Touchwood Project is a social enterprise based on Orkney whose goal is to enable people to make the world a “bit better” by teaching skills that help people enjoy being eco-friendly, develop themselves as leaders and strengthen their local communities.

Projects include training community-run hostels how to improve their profits and community impact, learning how to manage and have fun in a power outage during our Power Off Weekends, and running sessions to develop leadership through a tool called StrengthsFinder.

This year, their focus is on working with owners of hostels and accommodation businesses to benefit an entire community through our Hostel Hub project. Past projects include learning how to make the most of a power outage during our Power Off Weekends and remaking old clothes in a Reinvention Sewing Lounge. They also help community members develop their unique strengths through a tool called StrengthsFinder, which in turn enables them to improve the community and become great leaders.

Their next venture involves a series of workshops designed to improve retailers’ skills. The workshops inspired and approved by TV retail guru Mary Portas, will be piloted online in Orkney.
