In June 2009, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Within a couple of weeks I had received surgery to remove lump and lymph nodes, this left 2 wounds, close together underarm. As a result of this, it was painful and uncomfortable at all times, being unable to sleep, too painful to lie on the wounded side and also painful to lie on the opposite side due to the weight of the breast pulling against the wounds.
There was a constant feeling of always wanting to protect the wounded side, not wanting to travel in the car for fear of sudden stops, and dreading going into crowds, shopping or socialising in case of being knocked or bumped into.
I searched for products to help alleviate the problem, to no avail.
I designed and made items for myself, which provided comfort and support, helping me to deal better with everyday situations.
On speaking to women in the same situation, I discovered that most had similar experiences in relation to trying to protect their wounded side, and a feeling of vulnerability when out and about. Market research showed that some women still experience pain and discomfort for many years following surgery.
I am delighted to be able to make these TenderCush products available for other women to buy online at a time of need.
The TenderCush items are professionally produced by a quality textile manufacturer in the UK.
Whether buying for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for a loved one, you will also be supporting The Maggie`s Centre which offers great support to cancer patients and their families.
