The Makers Gallery and Bistro

Reachout With Arts In Mind is an innovative arts and mental health project based in Alloa with 19 years experience of working with, listening, and responding to people with mental health issues. Reachout developed Art ‘n’ Mind Limited social enterprise The Makers Gallery & Bistro to both meet peoples needs and become sustainable beyond increasingly vulnerable grant funding. The Big Lottery Fund granted an award to fund 4 new posts and overheads over a 5 year period 2012 – 2017.

The Gallery & Bistro will provide many training, enterprising and self enhancing opportunities for the local people.
CREATIVITY: opportunities for ‘everyone’ to participate in the arts.

ENGAGING & PROMOTING LOCAL TALENT: nurturing workshops, events, concerts, clubs and exhibitions
ENTERPRISING: The project aims to become sustainable over the long term providing flexible space for the community & artists.

EDUCATION, PROGRESSION & EMPLOYABILITY: 40 trainee placements per annum in our bistro & gallery plus creative skills development with hands-on training.

The Makers Village has aspirations to become a cultural focus for the area and an important venue on the Forth Valley tourist map. In addition to supporting established creative business, The Makers Village also aims to provide resource and know-how to aspiring makers in the area through workshops, night classes, studio space and equipment for hire.

This intergenerational, multi-cultural arts and training resource will be a nurturing, creative learning centre and will be unique within Forth Valley and as such we have secured 5 year revenue funding through Big Lottery Life Transitions programme to provide;

• 30 trainee placements per annum in the Bistro
• 10 trainee placements per annum in the Gallery
• Recruit 5 new posts Bistro Supervisor, Catering Assistant, Trainee Co-ordinator, Artist In Residence/Gallery Assistant & Enterprise Co-ordinator.
