DSL

Established in 1993, DSL is committed to providing access to affordable finance for businesses in disadvantaged communities.  A subsidiary of CEiS, it is an ethical lender which provides access to finance for both private businesses and social enterprises.

DSL provides business loans from £5,000 to £50,000 to businesses throughout Scotland.   Funds can be used for any purpose eg staff, equipment, cash flow, etc with the exception of consolidating existing debt.  Staff spend time with businesses to ensure that they can afford a loan and are clear about how they will generate surplus/profit; business loan applications are analysed to ensure clients are ‘loan ready’; and once a business becomes a client regular aftercare is offered, providing support and expert help to ensure the business is stable and grows.  All clients receive aftercare advice and visits every six months to see if there is anything DSL can do to make their business work better.  DSL is also able to provide guidance and advice on plans and cash flow forecasts should this be a barrier to applying for a loan.

DSL Consultancy Services can provide everything from scoping out how loan funds can be set up and funded to total management of the whole process. Current examples of this are DSL’s management of a microenterprise loan fund for Scottish Enterprise and design and management of loan and grant funds for The Royal British Legion.
