The Serenity Cafe

The Serenity Café is Scotland's first Recovery Cafe, run by people in recovery for people in recovery and public customers who want good value, good quality food in a relaxed space. The Café offers a warm welcome and a great daily menu to sit in and take away. It offers a family-friendly vibe with toys, high chair and changing table.

In addition, Serenity provides a programme of activities in its events space for people in recovery and their supporters – see, http://www.serenitycafe.co.uk/book-space.php

Opportunities for volunteering, learning, skills, experience and qualifications, for people in recovery are also available – with the Café open 9-5 Monday to Friday.

Serenity Café was set up by a small group of people in recovery in 2009, supported by Comas to develop the skills to realise their ambition. A steering group of people in recovery now guides the project, with over 40 volunteers, all in recovery themselves, and over 200 recovery community members involved in our café and our community activities

They have developed this guide to developing recovery cafes which shares their story so far… and plan to update it soon with an updated story of how they acquired and refurbished the premises.

They are happy to host visits at the Serenity Café, or to bring their experience to you.

They can offer training to groups in:

• Recovery community development
• Recovery Coaching and Self Coaching
• Developing recovery community response to supporting people in recovery
• Specific advice and support to develop recovery cafes.

This training is offered by Comas with members of the Serenity Café. There is a charge and the profits are used to continue to support our recovery community development.
