Comar works with creative people across all art forms to commission and develop new and exciting creative work. It is also home to professional producing company Mull Theatre, who tour extensively across Scotland. They present around 100 events each year across live music, visual arts, craft, theatre, dance, film, literature, comedy and more.
Comar helps people at every level to reach their creative potential. They provide creative learning classes, schools workshops, youth theatre, film club and dance classes. For professional practitioners, they offer creative residencies, exhibition opportunities, professional development programmes and production facilities.
Comar is based in Tobermory and operates venues on two permanent sites (see below) as well as working in a variety of community and external spaces.
a) A Victorian school building in the centre of Tobermory, An Tobar was renovated in 1997 and now houses exhibition spaces, an intimate live music venue, recording facilities, an art studio, music rehearsal space, cafe and shop.
b) Built in 2008, Druimfin is a production and performance space, equipped with raked seating for 80, a set workshop, costume store and administration offices. Future phases of the building include plans for a dedicated dance studio and additional production facilities.
Comar promotes events across Mull, Iona and Argyll, working with community groups and organisations to bring professional cultural product to a range of spaces from village halls to local forests.
