Since 1987, Toonspeak has provided free, high quality drama and theatre activities for young people aged 11-25 living in Glasgow.
Toonspeak works with professional artists who challenge and inspire young people to create their own performances and manage their own projects – all of its work is young people led - with 6 places for young people on our voluntary Board of Directors. Toonspeak aims to expand young people’s imaginations to help them reach their full potential and to inspire positive change within communities of disadvantage across the city. They ensure that anyone, regardless of experience, ability or personal circumstances can take part.
Their work can be separated into three strands – with each strand focussing on different ways young people can engage with theatre.
Centre Stage projects are all about making exciting, unique theatre to share with audiences large and small. It is also about building skills in performance and other aspects of theatre making so we can make even better theatre.
Green Room projects are all about using theatre and drama techniques to explore topics, increase confidence and gain skills and qualifications in a fun creative way.
Front Row projects are all about watching, talking about and learning from professional theatre and other arts events. It is also about training and keeping our inspiration topped up.
