The Larder is a new and exciting social enterprise in West Lothian with a passion for food - delivering kids cookery classes with adult and student classes coming soon.
Classes are designed to be fun and provide children between the ages of 5 and 12 with an introduction to food and cooking.
Classes for kids range from 2 hour workshops for 5 to 8 year olds to week long holiday courses for 9 to 12 year olds. They learn cooking skills like cutting, chopping, slicing, dicing and heating, frying, grilling and baking. Most of all they have fun whilst developing skills for life.
The Larder’s aim through this work is to raise money to enable it to work with young unemployed people, teaching them to cook at the same time as raising their confidence and developing skills that they can use to secure work.
The Larder also offers volunteering opportunities for individuals and companies that will build strong communities in West Lothian.
At the end of all of its programmes young people will have completed their own portfolio that will demonstrate the journey that they have completed with The Larder.
Some of this will be qualifications gained, some of it written, pictorial and self evaluation work that they will each have completed based on their own personal journey.
The Larder is based in Craigshill, Livingston. Their new premises will allow them to deliver food based activities for young people of all ages as well as develop its enterprising projects which will generate income to support its charitable work.
