North Edinburgh Childcare
North Edinburgh Childcare (NEC) first opened its doors to children in the spring of 1997.
The organisation developed in response to an identified need for affordable, flexible childcare in North Edinburgh that would enable local parents and carers to access increased opportunities for work, training or education.
A group of local women campaigned over a number of years for the creation of a custom built (state of the art) childcare facility. In the spring of 1997, the dream became a reality.
Since that time, the organisation has gone from strength to strength and grown into the multi-stranded operation that it is today. NEC has separate divisions offering pre-school care in the centre, plus out of school care for 180 children in 6 local primary schools.
NEC also provides a training service that offers a range of accredited and non-accredited training, again working locally and throughout the city. This service has quickly become recognised as an innovative provider of high quality training in Childcare. Provision includes the delivery of Scottish Vocational Qualifications at level 2 and level 3 in Children and Young People Award, as well as a range of internally certificated short courses in various childcare related topics.
Services are mainly delivered from the training suite based within North Edinburgh Childcare. The suite comfortably accommodates 30+ people, is completely accessible to people using wheelchairs and has ample car parking facilities.
NEC also has a full range of training equipment including an excellent library resource and self-study area with access to IT equipment and relevant software.
