Westbank Enterprises
Westbank Enterprises is a joint initiative between Perth and Kinross Council and the Shaw Trust - and is one of 13 horticultural enterprises operated by the Trust across the UK. The aim of this enterprise is to give local people work experience in a horticultural environment, which can be used as a stepping stone into employment.
The Shaw Trust has worked closely with local Work Choice offices and the Perth Employability Network to recruit staff for the project. Shaw Trust will provide supported work placements and volunteering opportunities in horticulture and grounds maintenance.
The local authority has been growing plants on the Westbank Enterprise site for a number of years and is already home to a number of polytunnels and greenhouses. The equipment will become part of the Westbank Enterprise and will be maintained by the newly recruited staff, giving the partnership project a solid base to develop and scope to increase the volume of plants and flowers grown.
The key contract is to provide the local authority with planting schemes for its parks and other community area - working in partnership with many other organisations under the umbrella of the Perth & Kinross Employability Network.
