The Workshop Aberfeldy

The Workshop Aberfeldy is a social enterprise with a passion for providing opportunities for young people in a rural area. Its aim is to support young people into employment, self-employment or further training and they do that by giving young people in Highland Perthshire the opportunity to learn practical and technical manufacturing skills in wood working, engineering and laser cutting.

Open to all members of the community to use, The Workshop has a particular emphasis on those under 25 years of age. They have also come to realise over our 18 months in business, that they are particularly well placed to provide opportunities for those with additional barriers to employment, be it additional support needs or rehabilitation needs. The Workshop is a safe environment in which to gain self-confidence and interpersonal skills at their own pace while learning practical manufacturing skills.

The Workshop generates revenue by selling products made during training and completing contracts for businesses. They offer a unique combination of services locally in woodwork, metal work and laser cutting and are delighted to be gaining a reputation as a ‘can-do’ organisation.

Whilst they work towards becoming financially self-sufficient, they do rely on grant funding to enable them to offer their services to the local community.
