Limelight Music is a Scottish Equalities professional music training and production company and for 24 years it has been delivering high quality inclusive music projects across Scotland and in Europe.
They are the largest employer of disabled musicians in Scotland and have two main aims:-
- To address current inequality by creating pathways to employment for people with impairments within the performing arts.
- To enhance employment prospects for disabled people by implementing early intervention music projects within schools.
From its base in Glasgow, Limelight collaborates with local authorities, schools, musicians, music producers and mainstream theatre companies to create new projects in education and in the entertainment industries. They provide music training sessions for over 1200 school pupils and 30 disabled adults throughout each year. Over half of their 16 strong workshop tutors and leaders are highly skilled and talented disabled musicians.
Limelight Music is the only Scottish Music Organisation funded directly by The Scottish Government Equalities Department and is the largest employer of musicians with impairments in Scotland. Limelight seeks to enhance employment prospects for disabled people by implementing early intervention music training projects within schools, where they provide performing arts training sessions for over 1,200 school pupils and 300 disabled adults each year.
The organisation encourages, organises and promotes collaboration between Special Educational Needs and Mainstream Schools throughout the country - helping children find new ways in which to express their feelings, ideas, thoughts and emotions, leading to increased confidence and self-belief. Workshop tutors include talented disabled musicians and educational arts practitioners who consider themselves as vital role models and mentors for future generations.
