All Cleaned Up
All Cleaned Up (ACU) is a social enterprise which specialises in industrial and commercial cleaning, while also delivering employability programmes to some of the most disadvantaged communities in Scotland.
ACU’s ethos is to create and promote a culture of inclusiveness and positive destination, while providing valuable voluntary opportunities, work experience and sustainable employment for people with convictions and multiple barriers to employment.
Based in Edinburgh, ACU employ over 20 staff – two thirds of whom have come through their own employability service – and currently operate contracts across the whole of Scotland.
Their cleaning services cover stairwells, bars, construction sites, community spaces, personal and end of tenancy cleans.
Working in conjunction with SCVO, All Cleaned Up engage with people with convictions, young people at risk and people with mental health difficulties to help people understand and overcome the barriers to the labour market.
One initiative, the Secret Jobs Programme, targets opportunities in the cleaning sector which often go unadvertised due to high turnover of staff and reduced margins.
The eight-week employability and vocational training programme helps individuals – particularly those with a history of offending – attain industry recognise qualifications and work placements.
This is supplemented by tailored, one day per week personal development sessions with a mentor, followed by a 13 week aftercare provision to ensure the journey into employment is as smooth as possible.
