MoBUS began in 1981 with one minibus, a couple of volunteer drivers, and a vision. The vision was to address the disadvantages experienced by groups or individuals who could not access appropriate public transport. Incorporated as a non-profit making company limited by guarantee in 1991, MoBUS is recognised by the Inland Revenue as a charity.
The company operates from two bases in Cupar and Leven with separate office facilities also based in Leven. The operating area covers the whole of East and North East Fife along with parts of Central Fife. Working closely with the Association of Community Transport in Fife (ACTIF) MoBUS is part of the strategic partnership agreement with Fife Council. This agreement, involving the three main community transport operators in Fife along with various council departments, will, in time, improve the access to transport for people who are presently excluded.
Operating a fleet of 19 accessible vehicles, MoBUS woks to allow individual participation through improving access to transport facilities to people with reduced mobility and other socially excluded groups. Proud of its roots, MoBUS knows it cannot function without creating and sustaining strong links with the community it serves and working alongside other organisations and agencies concerned with local needs. It is a priority for MoBUS that personnel involved or employed by the company not only work well together but have an understanding of the needs of the local community and the people for which they provide services. This combined with a business like approach provides the strength and dynamism to move the organisation forward.
MoBUS receives no core funding. All its income comes from fares and other charges made for use of vehicles and from income generated through provision of training to other voluntary and statutory organisations.
