Argyll Training is a limited company with charitable status which was formed in 1991 when Strathclyde Regional Council decided to disband Kintyre Training, their Youth Training department. A business plan was developed to form a private training company with the existing Kintyre Training staff. In 1994 Argyll Training amalgamated with Grand Met Trust in Argyll which increased the geographical and occupational skill areas covered.
Argyll Training's aim is to provide flexible training packages which will meet the needs of the workforce and contribute to the prosperity of the local economy.
This is achieved through working in partnership with local businesses and a variety of agencies including Local Enterprise Companies, Employment Services and Careers Scotland.
We are currently operating throughout Argyll & Bute, Renfrewshire and Lochaber.
Much of the work is carried out working with partner organisations. This collaborative approach has proved effective particularly in rural areas, allowing clients to access a wide range of training and support through a single point of access.
Argyll Training has contracts in place to deliver several government funded programmes including Skillseekers, which includes Get Ready for Work and Modern Apprenticeships, New Deal Options and Training for Work.
We offer training and support to meet the needs of unemployed adults aged 16 and upward. The training on offer ranges from employability and life skills training for long-term unemployed adults and those with additional support needs, through to a wide range of vocational qualifications.
The Managing Director, Fraser McCowan, is represented on the Beattie National Action Group and the National Education and Training Working Group.
