Fyne Futures Recycling

Fyne Futures Recycling, based in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, is an exciting social enterprise employing seven people at two centres, one in Bute and one in Cowal. They have a 15 year service level agreement with Argyll and Bute Council for a kerbside collection service. Now in its 2nd year, the team would like to share their experience of developing Island solutions to recycling.

Since 2002, Fyne Homes has been working with a local recycling organisation, Bute Waste Watchers, to provide a recycling centre for Bute. The construction of the centre was completed in June, 2004 and is now being used as a base for kerb-side collection of aluminium and steel cans, paper, plastic bottles and textiles. Collected material will be processed within the centre and transported to recycling markets.

The centre was largely constructed from recycled materials - recycled brick walls, recycled aluminium roof, recycled bottles in the windows, recycled kitchen units and sanitary fitments and recycled doors.
