FSB Enterprises based in Kirkcaldy, Fife, is a social firm that provides professional services that support compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). FSB Enterprises’ Chief Executive, Alan Suttie said, “with 75% unemployment amongst blind and partially sighted people, against 50% for disabled people in general, the business was essential in creating work opportunities. At the same time the business aims to make a surplus to put back in to services in Fife.” FSB Enterprise is a trading subsidiary of Fife Society for the Blind and was launched in December 2005 by the Gordon Brown MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
There are approximately 39,000 people registered blind or partially sighted in Scotland. FSB Enterprises provides services that make businesses and services accessible through transcription of print material into preferred format, staff training and auditing of buildings and services provision.
An owner of a guest house near St Andrews who attended one of FSB Enterprises’ Disability Awareness training session said “The course made a big impact on me and I could see the benefits of making our business accessible for disabled customers.
