Cearns Women’s Social Company

The Cearns Women’s Social Company has been established as a charitable company which will decide on how to spend any profits from the two trading arms, Apples and Pears and Happy Days. These three projects have had professional support and advisory input from Public Health Division staff.

The Cearns Womens Social Company was created to support health and creche facilities for families. Based at the Lewis Sports Centre in Stornoway, the organisation's trading arms Apples and Pears Cafe and Happy Days Creche provide a range of services from healthy eating to child care for the under three's.

Apples and Pears

The Cearns women’s group, Apples and Pears has established a social company and put together a Business Plan for the development of a healthy eating cafeteria in the new Sports Centre. The group obtained Lottery funding from the CHD and Stroke funding stream and from Leader Plus.

Happy Days

A sister company to Apples and Pears was also established to run the Sports Centre creche. The company will have a professional advisory group of childcare professionals including Childcare Partnership representatives and Health Visitors.
