Loganlea Miners' Welfare Society and Social Club

The Loganlea Miners' Charitable Society has been at the heart of the local community for many years, with many of the village's population registered as members. Its aim is to improve the facilities and services available to this former mining community by working in partnership with others to achieve common goals.

Given that the voluntary sector in this area generally lacks resources and the support infrastructure due to funding constraints, the Charitable Society has an important role to play in providing resources and leadership to the community and voluntary sector locally.
We are a registered Scottish Charity with the number SCO13063 and exist solely to promote the social and recreational well being of this former mining community.

The Charitable Society's trading arm is called the Loganlea Miners' Welfare Society and Social Club, which through income generation supports this fantastic facility and the entertainment, shows and activities on offer to the members and wider community.  All profits raised (less tax) are covenanted to the Charitable Society for good causes and building upkeep. You can hire the Function Lounge or one of our smaller multi-purpose rooms to hold an event or meeting etc.

Other initiatives include the Pitstop - the new name for the One Stop Shop Project here in Addiewell. The Pitstop is a community-owned building, open for 70 hours per week for recreation and education It includes a fitness suite, sauna, purpose built 2 tier soft play room, and a multipurpose room, offering internet access, games, children’s parties and group meeting facilities. This is offered for all ages of the community within the coalfields area, this is run with the aid of a group of volunteers and permanent staff. We work in partnerships with statutory and non-statutory organizations. The population of this rural village is approx 1300 and growing, this project is based in a zone, which is in the highest 10% in Scotland of an area of multi-depravation. We have had visits from Jack McConnell, First Minister, and other local dignitaries, supporting the services offered such as  Stop Smoking Support Group, Youth Work, and Blackburn & Seafield District Credit Union. A monthly newsletter is produced with a readership of 2000 plus.
