Borders Care and Repair
Eildon Enterprise has been awarded the contract by Scottish Borders Council, which is part financed by Communities Scotland, initially for a two year pilot in the Central Borders. It is then planned to extend the initiative to the whole of the Borders thereafter.
Borders Care and Repair is being set up to target resources to older people and people with a disability who will benefit from improvements to their home.
These improvements can be anything from fixing a smoke detector to major alterations to a kitchen, bathroom or heating system. The service will also consider adaptations for people with a disability which can include a range of improvements from a simple grab rail to the provision of ramps or hoists.
Dedicated Care and Repair Staff are presently being appointed and trained and will operate from Eildon Enterprise office in Bridge Street, Galashiels.
The service will consist of a Handyperson's Service, a minor Adaptation Service for people with a physical disability and an Improvement Service that will tackle larger improvements to property that is below the required standard.
Further details on the service, including information available through the WEBSITE will be available before the service opens to the public in January 2005.
