The Lodge is a former Victorian Hunting Lodge built in the 1850's. There are a number of rooms suitable for group work, open fires to sit round, and a large games hall. Outside, the estate extends to some 55 acres of woodlands, gardens, and campsites with ponds, a small farm and over a mile of woodland trails!
Most of our work at Wiston Lodge consists of running training days, and courses in team building and experiential education for children, young people and adults. Throughout the year, around 70% of our bookings come from youth groups, Prince's Trust Volunteers Duke of Edinburgh's Award teams, church youth groups, schools, and young people described as "at risk". Our staff are able to run courses lasting from one to five days in a safe residential setting. We have an Adventure Activities License (AALA), First Aid provisions etc. We always welcome new groups of all kinds as we need to keep our bookings diary as full as possible. We are open all year and our rates are very competitive. In the coming year, we hope to be able to add some arts elements to our courses. For further details send or phone for an information pack.
Wiston Lodge Mission Statement Providing physical, mental and spiritual challenge in a safe and sheltered residential environment for all users, but especially young people who are vulnerable and at risk; to enable the development of respect for onself, others and for the environment and to encourage lifestyles which are simple, nonviolent and free from destructive dependencies.
Our speciality is group and team building. Trained staff are available to run programmes lasting from just one day to a whole week for all abilities and levels of fitness. Safety is paramount and we have an Adventure Activities Licence and staff trained in First Aid. Most importantly, perhaps, we have a wealth of experience. For the adventurous, we have a challenging ropes course that can be used under staff supervision as part of a team-building event or just for fun. For many visitors, conquering their fear of "High Vines" and "Jacobs Ladder" is the highlight of their stay. We also have plenty of materials for devising fiendish problem-solving games and activity trails.
There is ample space for self-programmed groups of all sizes but we are happy to share our expertise in team building, personal development, arts and crafts, music and gardening. Some groups come here for team building exercises, others for discussions or creative workshops. Whatever your needs, the staff at Wiston aim to provide a safe and relaxed setting in which groups can make the most of their stay.
