ACE Centre

Monday 15th October 2007 saw over 50 people turn up to celebrate the opening of the ACE Centre in Kelso, by local social enterprise CESEL, who put a huge amount of time and ‘sweat equity’ into developing this new community facility for the residents of Kelso and the local social enterprise sector. The building which was acquired just three months earlier, in August 2007, is part of the Border Ice Rink in Kelso and used to be the Abbotseat public bar and skittle alley up until its closure in 2005. The new name for the building, the ACE Centre, stands for Abbotseat Community Enterprise.

The Facility comprises of the Pot Lid Community Café, Abbey Soft Play area, serviced offices and meeting rooms, a small conference facility or function room and The Gym. Internet access, Sky TV and a pool table are all there, with crèche available from Abbey Soft Play and catering provided by Pot Lid Catering for any occasion. A warm welcome awaits anyone who visits, and First Minister Alex Salmond has promised to pop in for a coffee next time he’s down at Kelso Races, right next door to the ACE Centre.

CESEL’s Director Diane Henderson thanked all those individuals who have helped and sent messages of support; with special thanks to David Cook, CEO of WASPS and Tim Ford for giving up their time and expertise to help get the Centre up and running.
CESEL also recently joined forces in partnership with Forth Sector, based in Edinburgh, and their Park View Laundry service to bid for a Borders Council contract which supports social work clients in the Scottish Borders and were successful in wining the 8 month contract. CESEL Delivery Service runs in the form of a 1.9t dispatch van and has been entirely self-financed by CESEL with no grant funding.

The ACE Centre will now be open from 9am - 9pm Monday - Saturday and from 11am - 6pm on Sunday and is also a fully self sustainable project.
