MOTOR-Vation Community Cars Ltd

MOTOR-Vation Community Cars Ltd became independent from Trans-Fife Community Transport in April 2008 after a successful pilot scheme. It operated as Wheels to Work (Alloa) from October 2006 until March 2008.

Many members of the local community experience problems travelling outwith the local area in order to secure employment, due mainly to restrictions with the availability of public transport.

MOTOR-Vation is a community car loan scheme which provides vehicles to members of the local community on a short term loan basis. The project is designed to provide transport support to local disadvantaged people who have recently secured full time employment, training or further education places.

Applicants to the scheme enter into a 10-week hire contract with MOTOR-Vation, payable by the hirer, outside agencies have referred and paid for clients until they receive their first wage. An extension to this time is available for an increased cost. The hire period of 10 weeks allows the hirer the means to secure and retain their new employment position over a sustained period, increasing their flexibility and independence.

Currently, we have 5 vehicles that are available to local disadvantaged people who have secured employment, training and/or further education.

The project works in partnership with outside agencies that refer clients who are actively seeking or have secured employment.

The daily business is currently run by a Development Co-ordinator and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are currently sourcing funding for an operations co-ordinator to help with expansion plans by autumn 08. We expect to have a Driving Advisor as part of MOTOR-Vation to allow us to enter the field of Safety on the Clackmannanshire Roads working hand-in-hand with Central Scotland Police, we anticipate this to be in place by spring 09. Another initiative is targeting 17 to 25 year olds. Central Scotland Police are keen to work with MOTOR-Vation by assisting with the provision of Road Safety Workshops. We are currently waiting to hear if our funding application was successful for providing subsidised driving lessons to enhance local disadvantaged people’s employability.
