Social Enterprise School: Stonelaw High School
From a tuck shop contained in a drawer in the R.E. filing cabinet, students at Stonelaw High School have established a thriving social enterprise with a four year turnover of £62,000.

The business team at this Rutherglen secondary school are known as Stonelaw Fair Traders and emerge from all year groups.  Their raison d'etre is to run a business which proves that success can exist without exploitation of producer groups, especially in the developing world.

Their products, which once fitted neatly in a drawer have multiplied and found a place on stalls at coffee mornings, parents' evenings, Christmas fairs and during the celebration of Fair Trade Fortnight.

The activities and the reach of Stonelaw Fair Traders does not end with the nurturing of community links between school and local community though. Their outlook is much broader. All profits from their social enterprise are invested into providing better facilities for AIDS orphans in the province of Kwazulu Natal in eastern South Africa from whom they receive regular updates about the improvements that their money has brought.
