Closemouth

Notes on community enterprise in Scotland

Terms of use

What a reader can and cannot rely on here.

Information, not advice

Each piece describes how something worked in Scotland or the wider UK on the date it carries: a way of owning a shop together, a type of investment in a local venture, a funding decision, a way of borrowing. That is general information. It is not legal, financial, tax or investment advice, and it knows nothing of your own position. Rules on charities, co-operatives, community shares and credit change, so check the current position with the regulator or a qualified adviser before you act. Money put into community shares or bonds can be lost, and a piece explaining how they work is not a recommendation to buy them.

Names used on the site

Councils, government bodies, co-operatives, charities, writers and musicians are named because they are part of the subject. A mention is description and implies no approval, either of the body by Closemouth or of Closemouth by the body.

Sources elsewhere

Pieces sometimes cite pages on other websites. Those pages belong to other people, can change or disappear at any time, and are outside these terms.

Using the text

The writing on Closemouth is its own. You may quote a short passage as long as you say where it came from. Copying a whole piece, or most of one, requires permission, which can be asked for through the contact page.

Errors

Errors do get through, and facts move on after a date has passed. A reported error is checked and, once confirmed, corrected. These terms may be updated without notice, and whatever this page says today is what applies.
