Stranraer Millennium Centre Community Trust, The
The Stranraer Millennium Centre Community Trust was formed to operate the current facility in George Street, Stranraer which was bought from the Co-op in 1998 with help from the Small Towns Initiative and Dumfries and Galloway Enterprise.
The Trust is a company limited by guarantee whose mission statement is to provide an affordable, accessible venue for the people, voluntary and community groups of Stranraer and its environs to meet and, to provide premises that will attract exhibitions, festivals, training, and other regenerative events.
Whilst the Trust's social mission is unchanged, its ethos is to have commercial business support the community sector by generating income from private and commercial use of the Centre alongside community activities taking place there.
The centre hosts a range of activities and events including a weekly market, bingo, boxing, parties, car boot sales, training sessions, public meetings, concerts, shows, exhibitions and weddings. In 2009, nearly 60,000 people used the Millennium Centre facilities.
However, The Millennium Centre has almost reached capacity in it's present form and to reach sustainability, needs to increase capacity as the Trust often has to turn away bookings.
Space and the flexibility of the facility to create space for a wide range of functions and activiites is at the core of the current re-development plans.

The Centre is run by a not-for-profit Trust to provide a venue for voluntary and community groups. However, to ensure its sustainability, the Millennium Centre can also be hired for a wide range of other events too.
The Centre offers a large indoor space ideal for conferences, events, exhibitions and training seminars shows for companies and public sector organisations as well as being the perfect venue for wedding receptions and parties. Office and shared desk space is also available to other voluntary organisations some of which already based at the Millennium Centre include The Bridge Dumfries and Galloway, DG Voice, The British Red Cross, Independent Living Support and CEIS which delivers employment support three out of every four weeks at the centre.
The Centre is licensed for 550 people and is currently building a database of wedding related services to provide a one-stop wedding service.
